Description

Nankarrow IsoCell is a high-density recycled polyurethane rebonded acoustic mat designed for sound absorption, soundproofing, and impact noise reduction in building applications. It is engineered to function as a resilient layer in mass-spring-mass acoustic systems, delivering high mechanical strength, elasticity, and long-term dimensional stability.

Material Composition

IsoCell is manufactured by mixing recycled chopped polyurethane foam with a liquid polyurethane polymer adhesive, followed by thermocompression until the required specific gravity is achieved. The resulting structure offers excellent consistency, dynamic stiffness, and very low permanent deformation. IsoCell acts as the spring element in mass-spring-mass constructions. When combined with rigid layers such as gypsum board, MDF, hardboard, cement board, or chipboard, it improves airborne sound insulation by filling cavities, damping resonance, and reducing vibration and structure-borne noise transmission.

Technical Specifications:

• Density: 120 kg/m³
• Compressive strength: 32 kPa
• Tensile strength: 50 kPa
• Elongation: 50 %
• Thermal conductivity: 0.038 W/m·K
• Water vapour permeability: 22 × 10⁻¹² kg/(m·s·Pa)
• Water absorption: 9 kg/m²

Key Performance Characteristics

  • High elasticity with very low permanent deformation
  • Excellent mechanical strength and resilience
  • Effective dynamic stiffness for acoustic decoupling
  • Free from fibers and health-hazardous substances
  • Manufactured from recycled foam; 100% recycled and 100% recyclable

Acoustic Performance

  • Impact sound reduction: ΔLw = 33 dB
(Measured according to ISO 717-2, floating floor application)
  • Airborne sound insulation improvement:
170 mm plastered brick wall: Rw = 53 dB
Brick wall + IsoCell 40 mm + 18 mm gypsum board: Rw = 62 dB
(Tested according to ISO 717-1 / ISO 140-3)

Applications:

Wall & Ceiling Soundproofing

  • Used within wall and ceiling cavities to create a mass-spring-mass effect
  • Improves airborne sound insulation while suppressing cavity resonance
  • Enables high sound insulation performance with reduced surface mass

Anti-Vibration Isolation

  • Reduces structure-borne noise and vibration transmission in building assemblies

Operating Principle

As sound waves pass through IsoCell, friction occurs between the acoustic wave and the porous rebonded structure. This process converts acoustic energy into heat, reducing transmitted sound energy. The material is optimized for lightweight double-leaf partitions where space efficiency and high acoustic performance are required.

Standard Sizes

  • Sheet size: 2000 mm × 1000 mm
  • Available thicknesses: 10 mm, 15 mm, 20 mm, 25 mm, 50 mm

Quality & Environmental Compliance

  • Manufactured under ISO 9001 Quality Management System
  • Environmental Management System compliant with ISO 14001

LEED® Considerations:
IsoCell is manufactured using 100% recycled polyurethane foam waste and is 100% recyclable. The recycled raw materials are sustainably sourced through Indian government–authorized channels from within a 200 km radius of the manufacturing facility, supporting reduced transportation impacts and regional material sourcing.

The use of IsoCell may support project teams pursuing credits under LEED v4 / v4.1 – Materials & Resources, including recycled content and regional sourcing–related criteria, subject to full project documentation and credit calculations.

WELL Building Standard® Considerations:
IsoCell contains no fibers or known health-hazardous substances and is intended for use as a concealed material in floor, wall, and ceiling assemblies. Its recycled composition and controlled material sourcing may align with WELL concepts related to Material Transparency and Indoor Environmental Quality, subject to project-specific evaluation.
