Description
Nankarrow Trifuser is a high-performance 150mm thick asymmetric pyramid acoustic panel designed for demanding acoustic environments. Combining porous absorption with advanced geometric diffusion, Trifuser is optimized for broadband sound absorption from 125 Hz to 4000 Hz and 80Hz to 4000Hz when used in a cluster. It effectively low-mid and high-frequency reflections while also providing moderate low-frequency control—making it ideal for studios, home theaters, and audiophile listening rooms.
Key Features
- 150mm deep asymmetric pyramid design for broadband absorption
- Constructed from high-density open-cell polyurethane or polyester acoustic foam
- Enhanced low-frequency absorption due to increased depth and internal reflections
- Improved diffusion thanks to non-uniform geometry
- Lightweight, easy to install on walls and ceilings
- Available in multiple colors and flame-retardant variants

Mechanism of Sound Absorption:
-
Friction between air molecules and pore walls converts acoustic energy into heat.
-
The 150 mm depth traps sound deeper into the acoustic foam mass, reducing sound energy through cumulative attenuation. This leads to deeper penetration of lower frequencies, increasing absorption in the 250–800 Hz range.
-
The irregular, angled surfaces of the asymmetric pyramid cause sound waves to reflect multiple times within the grooves. Each reflection increases path length and energy loss.
-
The asymmetric geometry breaks up wavefronts, reduces specular reflections, and promotes a more uniform reverberant field.
Absorption Coefficients
Tested in accordance with ISO 354 in reverberation chamber conditions at N. N. Andreyev Acoustics Institute, Moscow.
| Frequency (Hz) | 125 | 250 | 500 | 1000 | 2000 | 4000 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Absorption Coefficient (α) – Single | 0.25 | 0.65 | 0.90 | 0.95 | 0.95 | 0.90 |
| Absorption Coefficient (α) – Cluster | 0.45 | 0.82 | 0.94 | 0.98 | 0.98 | 0.96 |
Advantages
- Broadband absorption from 80 Hz to 4 kHz in a cluster configuration
- Non-parallel, asymmetric surfaces eliminate flutter echo and reduce comb filtering
- Improved acoustic imaging and speech clarity in critical listening environments
- Ideal for irregular room geometries and non-rectangular spaces
- Modular and scalable for both small rooms and large studios
- Dual-function: combines sound absorption and diffusion for a natural sound profile
Applications
- Recording studios (control rooms, vocal booths)
- Home theaters and media rooms
- Audiophile listening spaces
- Broadcast and post-production studios
- Podcast and content creation rooms
- Machine enclosures and office acoustic control
Mounting Recommendations
For maximum performance in low-mid frequencies, we recommend mounting the Nankarrow Trifuser with a 50–100 mm air gap behind the panel. This effectively lowers the resonant absorption point and increases broadband efficiency.
